The Judiciary says that hearing of all electoral petitions emanating from the 2021 parliamentary elections will kick off next week and that 1.2 billion shillings have been set aside to facilitate the exercise.
In order to conform to the current COVID-19 guidelines, only petitioners, respondents, their lawyers, witnesses and members of the press will be allowed on court premises.
Members of the public who wish to follow the proceedings will do so from venues being set up outside courtrooms.
The total number of petitioners to be attended to is 155, with Mbale high court having the highest number.
The Spokesperson at the Judiciary Jameson Karemani says that judges to handle the petitions have already been deployed and asked to conclude their work within 30 days
Karemani revealed this as he addressed Journalists at the Media Center
