Bugabula North Member of Parliament (Kamuli District), John Teira has officially joined the Deputy Speaker’s race.

Kampala.

The Office of the Deputy Speaker that is currently occupied by Bukedea District woman Mp Anita Anent Among will remain vacant following her endorsement to run for Speaker tomorrow during a parliamentary sitting at Kololo Independence grounds.

While launching his bid for the Deputy Speaker’s seat, Teira says he will express his interest in writing to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) when the internal process opens.

Teira, a renowned lawyer said he will focus on rebuilding public trust in Parliament, the legislative arm of government that has been subjected to criticism.

“I trust that am up to the task and will work towards building a strong parliamentary institution devoid of ridicule by the public and other arms of government”, said Teira.

Teira disclosed that as a member of the ruling party he will ensure that parliament is fully involved in the efficient and effective implementation of government programs.

“I will align the executive and parliament for attainment of our legislative agenda”, He added.

Terira has also promised to improve the welfare of members of parliament.

He, however, expressed willingness to rally behind anyone who is endorsed by the Central Executive Committee in case he is not considered.
