Ibanda.
At least more than 200 women in the Kicuzi sub-county, Ibanda district, have received free sexual reproductive health services including cervical cancer screening and management at Irimya health center II.
The health campaign was organized by Jane Bainomugisha, the woman representative in parliament in a way of giving back to the people in the community.
According to Bainomugisha, the free service is targeting all women who have clocked the reproductive age to reduce cases of cervical cancer among pregnant mothers.
The woman legislator emphasized proper hygiene among men and also encouraged women to exhibit maximum vigilance of their husbands’ hygiene claiming that they are the most source of cervical cancer which mostly affects women.
“You can prevent cervical cancer by yourself especially when you tell your husbands always to be mindful of cleanliness because it’s men who usually spread such sexual related diseases”
In charge of Irimya Health Center II, Oswaldo Muhangi welcomed the sexual health services to restore hope in the women’s lives in the area.
“I want to thank our beloved honourable for bringing us doctors who tested cervical cancer and also gave family planning services to our women because this is a hard-to-reach area so women struggle a lot to access such essential health services,” says Muhangi
He further reported that due to poor roads and inadequate drugs at the facility, women have not been accessing such sexual services at the facility.
Some of the beneficiaries also applauded their woman representative for showing some great concern for the mothers’ life.
“We’ve been travelling long distances to Ibanda, to Kagongo looking for such health services but now to find that we’ve just been treated sexually related health challenges from our proximity it’s of great pleasure” one of the women excitedly revealed
Women in the Kicuzi sub-county however continue to decry of inadequate and quality reproductive health services at Irimya health center II thus calling the government to upgrade it to a health center III status such that they can enjoy full quality health services in the Sub County.
