Four months after committing to support the construction of Bugweri District Muslim headquarters, Speaker Anita Among has delivered her Shs100m pledge for the project.

In April this year, while attending the burial of counsel, Ramathan Waiswa, the brother of Bugweri County Member of Parliament, Hon Abdu Katuntu pledged Shs100m for the construction of Muslim headquarters.

On her way to Bukedea, on Thursday morning made a stopover in Bugweri where she handed her pledge to the district khadi, Sheikh Sinani Muwanika before a cheerful group of Muslims who were gathered at Hon. Katuntu’s home.

“When I was here for burial of counsel Waiswa, I made a promise that, for the good of Bugweri and in memory of the late, I will give a contribution to support the construction of the headquarters, so on my way home I decided to pass by to fulfill my pledge,” Among said.

Among urged the people of the Busoga sub-region to unite if they were to propel the sub-region to prosperity.

“If we don’t unite then we shall remain under developed as Busoga. We have good leaders here, now let us unite and work together for the good of Busoga,” she said.

She advised youths to desist from indulging in hate social media campaigns orchestrated by unscrupulous people whose agenda is to blackmail political leaders and fail the government.

“My young people don’t join campaigns or protests that you don’t know…People will cheer you when you go to the streets but at the end it’s our poor parents who will suffer to save you,” she said.

Sheikh Muwanika expressed gratitude to the Speaker for her consistent support to the people of Bugweri and Busoga at large.

She also made a stopover in Bugiri Municipality, represented by Hon. Asuman Basalirwa where she addressed locals, urging the leaders to support and monitor government programs for the benefit of the communities. In their prayer, local leaders appealed to Parliament to allocate more funds to the Uganda Road Fund (URF) for the rehabilitation of roads at sub-county levels.

She provided financial support to several SACCO groups in Bugiri.
