Back ground.
This followed a petition filed by Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama to the NRM elections disputes tribunal that was previously authorized by the party chairperson and the president of Uganda to resolve dissatisfactions that resulted from the just concluded NRM party primaries elections.
The initial tallies of the NRM primaries in Ibanda district on September 4 stated that Jane Bainomugisha to have defeated Kyomukama who is the incumbent MP.
Bainomugisha had been declared winner by Moses Arimwerenga the Ibanda district NRM registrar with 37,606 votes while Kyomukama garnered 37,439 votes leaving a difference of only 167 votes. Kiboijana Magret had polled 19,319 Elivaida Twesigye 1,555 and Asimire Obeth 607
The win sparked off anger and dissatisfaction from Kyomukama’s camp who accused Jane Bainomugisha of rigging votes and conniving with the NRM registrar Ibanda district to alternate results on the Declaration forms.
However after the recount, Kyomukama emerged the eventual winner, with 38,124 votes. Her close rival Jane Bainomugisha polled 37,666 votes.
