As it stands now Uganda Revenue Authority – URA can now go ahead to impound and reexamine National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s new motor vehicle, after the High Court ruled that Kyagulanyi has not adduced evidence to show that the re-calling of the said vehicle would cause him an irreparable injury which cannot be compensated by an award of damages.

Justice Emmanuel Baguma read the finding and further ruled that the Court was not satisfied with Kyagulanyi’s claim that it is his main means of transport and his security.

The Judge, therefore, declined to grant the temporary injunction against URA and dismissed the application as improper. The judge made no orders to costs.

Geoffrey Turyamusiima who represented Kyagulanyi in this case on 4th/March/2021 informed Court that his client was ready to have his newly acquired motor vehicle a Toyota Land Cruiser re-examined by URA; but that it should be done in his presence at his home in Magere.

However, URA’s Geoffrey Balamaga a Manager in the Customs Department objected to Magere insisting that the law governing re-assessment of goods under the East African Community customs Management Act 2004 only permits them to assess and evaluate goods before the Commissioner Customs.
