NAADS executive director Samuel Mugasi says that the hoe distribution exercise to each household has been affected by the limited funds.
Mugasi revealed this while appearing before the agriculture committee of parliament with the minister of agriculture Frank Tumwebaze and were tasked by Abim woman member of parliament Janet Okorie Moe and Agago North mp Okot Amos asked the ministry to clarify on the president pledge saying that despite parliament approving funds communities were yet to receive the hoes.
Mugasi informed MPs that because of the limited budget only 2.5 million hoes were procured and they decided to start with Karamoja, West Nile, and Teso subregion where he says each household received two hoes.
He says that they are hopeful they will receive more funds to purchase all the hoes needed to distribute in the whole country.
Mugasi also says that as farmers prepare for the planting season they plan to allocate each constituency through members of parliament 3 tons of maize as one of the ways to ensure the country is food secure.
