The Office of the President is seeking for Shs3.2Bn to secure office space for former Vice President Edward Ssekandi, former Premiers Ruhakana Rugunda, and Amama Mbabazi as well as former Security Minister Eli Tumwine who was recently appointed as Presidential Advisors.
The request has been made before Parliament’s Budget Committee by the minister for economic monitoring Peter Ogwang accompanied by the secretary to the office of the president Yunus Kakande.
Kakande informed MPs that the president was recently appointed by the President and there is a need to secure offices for them at Kingdom Hall and these offices would be ready in January 2021.
He says that the procurement of office space has been concluded; Partitioning of the building is ongoing and is expected to be completed by January 2022.
The appointed presidential advisors include former vice president Edward SSekandi,former prime minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Amama Mbabazi, former ministers Elly Tumwine, Amelia Kyambadde, Florence Nakiwala, Sarah Kanyike among others
The other funds include 1.5 billion for State visitors for president swearing-in May 2021. 3.974Bn court award and compensation paid among others.
The committee however could not process the request as some of the items submitted by the ministry of finance for consideration had been left out.
