Four Workers’ Members of parliament are re-elected as flag bearers of the ruling National Resistance Movement party in the 2021 general elections.
These include; commissioner of parliament Arinaitwe Rwakajara, former minister of state for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi, Dr. Sam Lyomoki and Agnes Kunihira.
The new entrant into the race for Workers’ MP slots is the Chairperson of Uganda Public Employees Union (UPEU), ) Namirembe Agatha who beat the chairman General of National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) Usher Wilson Owere with a margin of 10 votes.
We spoke to the commissioner of parliament Arinaitwe Rwakajara, the overall winner in the hotly contested race that attracted 10 people and he revealed that he will organize more training for Workers’ to enhance their rights and bring more bills like an externalization of labor to help workers who are exploited by some companies.
Rwakajara also vows to retable the Minimum Wages’ bill which president Museveni recently refused to sign last year.
Rwakajara says the president was ill advised to think that there are already existing laws that cater for minimum wages.
The bill had intended to create a unique minimum pay for workers in each sector as a remedy for exploitation by employers.
