Jimmy Muhumuza,
Parliament.
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah has directed the clerk to parliament to set up a special tent for members of parliament who have not received their COVID-19 results to enable them to follow parliament proceedings.
This is after the Jinja South Division West Member of Parliament in Jinja city Batuwa Timothy Lusala raised a procedural matter on the continued blocking of members of parliament to access Kololo ceremonial grounds yet it had been declared as a parliament.
Batuwa informed the speaker it’s not fair to deny members of parliament access to parliament just for lack of negative COVID-19 results.
Batuwa was supported by other members of parliament who asked the speaker that a special tent should be set up for members who are yet to receive their COVID-19 tests like it was done during the election of the speaker and deputy speaker instead of keeping them out.
The speaker Jacob Oulanyah informed MPs that this is a difficult time because of the pandemic and we need to ensure the safety of members of parliament but informed them that arrangements are going to be made to ensure a special tent is set up for them.
