Parliament has set up a select committee to investigate the operations of the National Council of sports –Uganda and the related funding to the whole sports sector.
This follows parliament discovering a mismatch in the financial releases to the sports federations which are being supervised by the National council of sports.
Bugiri municipality mp Assuman Basalirwa moved the motion to probe the expenditures of the National council of sports and was supported by many members.
The speaker of parliament Anita Among said that there are no clear criteria used for the sports federations to access funding from the National council of sports hence some get little money and others get more funds.
The minister of state for sports Peter Ogwang supported parliament to have a forensic audit to be carried out on the activities of the National council of sports
The named select committee will be chaired by the female member of parliament for persons with disability Laura Kanusu to start probing the matter.
Others on the committee include; Bukhooli central mp Solomon Silwany, Namayingo district woman mp Margaret Makhoha,Bunya south mp Idi Isabirye,Geofrey Kawemba solo among others.
Bukomansimbi south mp Geoffrey Kayemba solo said that they will do a good report on the activities and expenditures of the National council of sports.
