Lawyers accuse Naume Nnyangweso of slowing down the hearing of his brother’s murder trial by choosing to give her testimony in Runyankore instead of English which she very well knows as an LC1 chairperson of Bugolobi and her three police statements were also written in English.
This was the opening statement of counsel Jet Tumwebaze as he shot up to cross-examine Naume Nyangweso. Tumwebaze said the choice of Naume’s language was on purpose to make them have a hard time answering their questions.
The lawyer has then asked Naume whether she included a phrase in her three statements to police recorded as soon as the murder had just happened on 2nd Nov, 15th/ Nov and 8th/ January 2024 that Katanga told her Molly wanted to kill him, to which she answered in the negative prompting them to conclude that Naume’s statement was a malicious afterthought concocted in her mind simply because she hates her brother’s widow Molly.
They accuse her of always invoking the Katanga name because she wants to get a share of the Katanga Estate. The lawyer elaborated that Naume presented herself to the police as a Katanga because her sole purpose was to inherit her brother’s property.
Also while giving testimony in a land dispute case between the late John Barigye and the estate of the late Arther Edwin Katanga, Naume gave evidence and testified on oath that she is a biological daughter of the Late Arthur Edwin Katanga.
Lawyers also accuse Nyangweso of doing nothing even though she was called first by the children of the late Henry Katanga through the help of a shamba boy who had earlier informed her about the fight that was taking place before the incident.
