The government speaks on investigations that were launched into operations of the Democratic Governance Facility aim at revealing persons or organizations that shared about 500 billion shillings from the facility during the election period.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo says that president Museveni is concerned that the money could have been used to fund activities that put the country in danger.
Opondo says that the 500 billion shillings were spent without following the laid down procedures including approval from the cabinet through the ministry of finance planning and economic development.
Opondo said that it’s possible for the National Unity Platform party could have received part of the funds to run its campaigns
Meanwhile, MPs want the president to stay his order to close the activities of DGF saying it has been a pillar in supporting various institutions in the country whose activities may suffer its closure.
The matter was tabled by Kawempe North Mp Latif Sebagala and backed by Silas Ogon noted that the closure of DGF would be prudent if backed up by thorough investigations.
